Again, as always, it takes me forever to update. Here I leave three of the pieces I did for my Children's Book Illustration class. It's an ABC book about space creatures. It's completely absurd, so I don't think I would ever be able to sell it, but it is SO MUCH FUN!!!

Otra vez, como siempre, tardo muchísimo en postear. Aquí os dejo tres piezas que he hecho para mi clase de ilustración de libro infantil. Es un ABC sobre criaturas espaciales. Es completamente basurdo, así que no creo que nunca sea capaz de venderlo, pero me lo estoy pasando genial!!!

Kazu's Class

This has been a very confusing semester.I have to say that I considere myself incredibly lucky to have taken "Figure Painting in Acrylics" with my teacher Kazu Sano. He has been a source of inspiration and I considere his as one of the most enlightening classes I have taken. And I'm not saying it just to say something nice. To anyone else, someone more talented or more confidente, it could seem like a little thing, but I feel like I have gone such a long way since the first day of class. I have dared to experiment with colors and some textures, enough to feel confortable with acrylics. Every time I say that I'm afraid it might sound terribly dull, but to me it means the world. Kazu will be missed even by someone like me, who only knew him for a couple of months.

Este ha sido un semestremuy confuso. Tengo que decir que me considero increíblemente afortunada por haber tomado "Dibujo de la Figura en Acrílico" con mi profesor Kazu Sano. Él ha sido una fuente de inspiración para mi y considero su clase como una de las más esclarecedoras que he tomado nunca. Y no lo digo sólo por decir algo bonito. Para cualquier otra persona, alguien con más talento o más confianza en sí mismo, podría parecer una pequeñez, pero yo siento que he avanzado muchísimo desde el primer día de clase. Me he atrevido a experimentas con colores y texturas, lo suficiente como para sentirme cómoda utilizando acrílicos. Cada vez que digo eso tengo la impresión de que suena increíblemente aburrido, pero para mí significa muchísimo. Kazu será extrañado, hasta por alguien como yo, quien sólo le conoció durante un par de meses.

This semester has been a bit of a disaster. I haven't produced anything that I like, other than the crocodiles from the previous post. Nonetheless, here is my work fro Children's Books Illustration class. The first two are scenes from Aesop's "The Lion and the Mouse", the other tree are illustration for Rapunzel. My colors got so sad... I'm afraid the way I felt about the semester was bleeding through :S

Este semestre ha sido un desastre. No he producido nada que me guste, más que los cocodrilos del post anterior. Igualmente, aquí pongo mi trabajo para la clase de Ilustración de Cuentos Infantiles. Las primeras dos son escenas de "El León y el Ratón" de Esopo, y el resto son ilustraciones para Rapunzel. Los colores se volvieron tan tristes... me temo que lo que siento hacia el semestre se ha reflejado en mi trabajo :S

This is not my proudest work, but it is all I have done this Christmas. This is Elaine, the fair maiden who Lancelot rescues from an enchanted boiling cauldron to which Morgana le Fay has condemned her for being beautiful. Most stories forget to mention her, but she has always been one of my favorite.

No estoy muy orgullosa de este trabajo, pero es todo lo que he hecho estas Navidades. Esta es Elaine, la bella doncella a la que Lanzarote rescata de un caldero hirviendo encantado al que Morgana le Fay la ha condenado por ser bella. Casi todas las historias olvidan mencionarla, pero siempre ha sido uno de mis personajes favoritos.

This weekend I had to finish 2 out of 3 finals so I can dedicate the rest of my time to the 3rd one (Which you will most likely never see because it's looking awful!).
Here I show you "Pure emotions" (In this case illustrating anger or hate) and a cover for a book that I will one day write!
I am exhausted! :O

Este fin de semana he tenido que terminar 2 de mis 3 finales para poder dedicarle el resto de mi tiempo al tercero (El cual seguramente nunca veréis porque es horrible!).

Surrealism assignment

For this new assignment I have had to face one of my biggest fears: Letting go! I basically had to draw without thinking about what I was doing. Being that I am a bit of a control freak (Specially when it comes to drawing), I really struggled with it. Finally I figured out that the only way in which I would be able not to plan ahead, would be if I were following someone else's instructions. In this case, the "someone else" was "watercolor". I doodled with different colors and textures and then drew on top whatever pattern I could find once the water was dry. Those little sketches are what came out of it.

En este nuevo ejercicio he tenido que enfrentarme a uno de mis mayores miedos: dejarme llevar! Básicamente tenía que dibujar sin pensar en lo que estaba haciendo. Teniendo en cuenta que soy la reina del control (sobre todo cuando se trata de dibujar), me ha dado muchos problemas. Finalmente me di cuenta de que el único modo en el que podría no planear lo que hacía de entemano, sería si seguía las instrucciones de otro. En este caso, este "otro" han sido "las acuarelas". Garababteé con colores y texturas diferentes y luego dibujé los patrones que pude ver cuando el agua se secó. Estos pequeños bocetos son lo que pude sacar.

Then I was able to go to my usual control freakness and overdo every detail of the final work. I used the same palette from the sketch, but gave it a new and louder twist.

Entonces pude volver a mi habitual control y obsesionarme con cada detalle del trabajo final. Utilicé la misma paleta que en el boceto, pero le di un giro nuevo y más llamativo.

This is my latest piece of work. I am pretty satisfied with it (something that doesn't happen all that often). The assignment required me to look at some other artist's stile and incorporate it to mine. I didn't really did much of that... I pretty much only used the patterns... Can you guess who my inspiration artist was??
Unfortunately, the subject matter is not a very happy one. It's all the book I'm reading's fault. I wanted to do something pretty about the joy of being a new mother (hahahaha! That almost sounds like I am one xD), but it ended up being about miscarriage :S
I had three weeks to finish it, which, in my opinion, was way too much time. I have no patience. I hate having to stop myself, but I can't deny that the feedback is always good :)

Este es mi último trabajo. Estoy bastante satisfecha (algo que no se produce con demasiada frecuencia) El ejercicio consistía en buscar algún artista e incorporar su estilo al mio. La verdad es que lo único que he hecho yo ha sido itilizar los patrones decorativos... Puedes adivinar qué artista fue mi inspiración??
Desafortunadamente, el tema de la ilustración no es muy feliz. Es todo culpa del libro que me estoy leyendo. Yo quería hacer algo bonito, sobre la alegría de haber sido madre (jajajajaja! Eso suena como si yo hubiese sido madre xD), pero terminó siendo sobre el aborto :S
Tenía tres semanas para terminarlo, lo cual, en mi opinión, ha sido demasiado tiempo. No tengo paciencia. Odio tener que parar en mitad del dibujo, pero he de admitir que las críticas siempre hacen bien :)

This is the first time I have ever been able to paint something digitally without relaying on line. It was scary, but I proved myself that I can do it!!! :D

Here is a little something I did last night experimenting a bit with watercolor and ink on aquaboard. It's my sister holding a dead rat. It sounds kind of funny, but I mean well. It's the kind of thing my sister would do. All for science and nature :)

This is the final for my photo class. The main subject was paper over the same color paper. The first one is a tubular sculpture (Every time I read that I think about Mike Oldfield :S), the second one is supposed to show texture and the third one a repeated pattern. I like how they turned out. I really hope Mr. Erdman does too :)

Este es el proyecto final para mi clase de fotografía. El tema principal es papel sobre papel del mismo color. la primera es una escultura tubular (Cada vez que leo eso en inglés pienso en Mike Oldfield :S), la segunda se supone que muestra la textura y la tercera un patrón que se repite. Me gusta como han quedado. Espero que a Mr Erdman también le guste :)

Here is ma latest "Power of Myth ans Symbol" project. The teacher pretty much told us to do whatever we wanted, so instead of writing I decide to draw a bit. Coloring was a waste of time, though.

In my case it's easy so to see when my mind is not at ease. I usually stay up until daylight doing anything that will calm me. Drawing works best.
Tonight I've been working on character design :)

En mi caso es fácil saber cuando mi mente está intranquila. Normalmente me quedo despierta hasta que salga el sol mientras hago cualquier cosa que me calme. Dibujar es lo que mejor funciona.

I was not sure of what to post, so I finally decided to go with something that I had fun doing. Here are some pen and ink drawings that I especially enjoyed.
(In the secnd one I tried to imitate Toppi's style, but I didn't really do that great of a job.)

No estaba segura de lo que colgar, así que al final me decidí por algo que me resultase divertido de hacer.
